10 Facts About Anxiety – and How to Overcome It.

by  Elke

A Man, a Tiger – It’s About Survival

With his last strength, he jumps from a rocky ledge.
Luckily, a tree breaks his fall.

There he hangs now.
Clinging to a branch.

Above him, the tiger waits.
Below him—hundreds of feet down—sharp rocks.

Desperately, he cries out:
“Help! Help, can anyone hear me?”

A voice answers:
“Yes.”

The man shouts:
“God, is that you?”

Answer:
“Yes.”

Terrified, the man says:
“God, I will do anything you want—but please, please help me.”

God replies:
“Okay. Then let go.”

The man pauses for a moment…
Then he shouts:

“Is there anyone else up there?”

What Is Fear Really?

Who hasn’t experienced fear?

It shows up in your body:
A sinking feeling in your stomach.
A racing heart.
Tightness in your throat.

Its core function is simple:

To ensure survival.

Fear is important.
Without it, you wouldn’t be alive.

The Deeper Layer

In the Yoga Sutras, fear is described as one of the five causes of suffering:
Abhinivesha.

The root of all fear:
The deep attachment to life—
and the fear of loss, change, and death.

Fear shows us:

Life is fragile.
Nothing is permanent.

Everything comes.
Stays for a while.
And goes.

Even fear.

The Real Problem

It becomes difficult when fear works overtime.

When it controls you—
even when there is no real danger.

That’s when you are trapped in fear.

Instead of truly living,
you waste energy protecting yourself
from something that doesn’t even exist.

How Fear Is Created

Your mind reaches into your past
and builds stories.

“What if…”
“Something could happen…”

But:

Thoughts are not the truth.

They are constructions of your mind.

The Way Out

You cannot overcome fear
by fighting it.

Quite the opposite.

The way is different:

Let go.
Trust.

Because:

Where there is trust, fear cannot live.

Yoga and Naked Yoga

That’s what it’s about:

Letting go.
Trusting.

And showing yourself.

As you are.

Are you afraid to show yourself naked?
Unprotected?
Real?

Then this is exactly your path.

Face your fear.

The 10 Most Important Facts About Fear

1. Fear is not a mistake—it is a survival mechanism.
It is deeply wired into your nervous system and keeps you alive.

2. Your brain can hardly distinguish between real and imagined danger.
A thought can trigger the same response as a real threat.

3. Fear often arises not from the situation—but from your interpretation.
Two people, same situation—completely different feelings.

4. Avoidance strengthens fear over time.
What you avoid grows stronger.
What you face loses power.

5. Fear wants to be felt—not fought.
The more you resist it, the stronger it becomes.

6. Your body reacts faster than your mind.
Fear appears before conscious thought.

7. Your breath is your direct access to fear.
Slow, conscious breathing calms your nervous system immediately.

8. Fear often lives in the future—not in the present.
It feeds on “what if,” not on what is.

9. Courage does not mean having no fear.
Courage means acting despite fear.

10. Behind every fear, there is often a desire.
Fear of rejection = desire for connection.
Fear of failure = desire for success.
