Even Hercules had to learn it first

by  Elke

This week we’re looking at a myth that feels more relevant than ever:
Hercules fights the Hydra, and the more he strikes, the more he loses.

The same thing happens in our own minds: stress, overthinking, and inner restlessness grow stronger when we try to fight them. Only when Hercules changes his strategy does clarity arise. And this is exactly the principle we use in Naked Yoga: less fighting, more awareness and suddenly the mind becomes quiet.

But let’s start at the beginning.😀

Hercules is considered the greatest hero of Greek mythology.

He was a son of Zeus and known for his superhuman strength. But strength alone doesn’t protect you from life. Because Hera—the jealous wife of Zeus—cursed him, Hercules temporarily lost his sanity and committed terrible acts. To purify himself, he had to complete twelve seemingly impossible tasks.

One of them: the battle against the Hydra.

The Hydra of Lerna was a terrifying creature:

  • a huge, serpent-like body
  • multiple heads
  • and worst of all: whenever one head was cut off, two new ones grew back

It became a symbol of problems that don’t get smaller when you fight them, only bigger.

Hercules stands in mythology for raw strength, courage, and willpower.
But this very strength made his battle with the Hydra even harder:

The more he struck, the stronger the monster became.

Sounds familiar?
That’s exactly what happens to many people today, inside their own minds.

The Hydra stands for everything that keeps coming back:

  • Overthinking
  • Stressful thoughts
  • Inner restlessness
  • Self-doubt
  • Feelings you’d rather push away

And how do most people react?

They fight. They suppress. They push back.

But just like in the myth, the same truth applies here:

The more you fight, the stronger the thought-monster inside you becomes.
Stress rises. Tension increases. The nervous system stays on high alert.

The turning point in the story comes when Hercules finally stops the blind fight.
He realizes: I can’t solve this with brute force.

This is the moment when many people today discover yoga, meditation, or mindfulness.
They sense: I have to learn to relate to myself differently.

So how does Hercules really defeat the Hydra?

His nephew Iolaus helps him. He burns each severed head immediately so that no new one can grow.
He interrupts the cycle.

And you?

Maybe there’s a Hydra inside you sometimes too: thoughts that won’t stop.
Feelings that come back stronger the more you push them away.
Inner restlessness that grows when you resist it.

In Naked Yoga something special happens:
Without layers, without masks, without armor, you feel yourself more clearly.
You see your own “Hydra heads” more distinctly—and at the same time, they lose their power.

You stop fighting.
You breathe.
You soften.
And suddenly, what once felt overwhelming becomes quiet.

If you want to go deeper on this path, I’m here to guide you.

With love,
Your Elke 🧡
