The Greatest Battle and the Most Important Victory of Your Life

by  Elke

Eastern wisdom is over 2,500 years old – yet more relevant than ever.

Look around: everywhere people are fighting – between nations, opinions, beliefs.
But does it make anyone happier?
Hardly.

Battles fought on the outside can never truly be won.
Everyone loses.

The only battle worth fighting – and winning – takes place within you.

The Dhammapada – timeless advice

In the 4th chapter of the Dhammapada, one of Buddhism’s most famous texts, it says:

“Who conquers himself is greater than all;
For one who walks in self-control,
No god, no demon, nor even Brahma himself
Can ever undo that victory.”

Life is not about defeating others –
it’s about mastering yourself.
That’s where true greatness lies.

What does that mean?

“To conquer yourself”
… means to understand your own mind – your anger, greed, fear, pride, or habits –
and no longer be ruled by them.

“Is greater than all”
… because it’s far harder to make peace with yourself than to defeat others.
Hurting, judging, or proving someone wrong is easy, but changing yourself takes real strength.

That’s why most people prefer to fight outside instead of looking within.

“No god or demon can undo this victory”
When you master your own mind, that victory is yours forever. No one can take it from you. Then you are truly free.

The Path to Inner Freedom

The first step to freedom is to let go of your past.

The mind is a clever builder, but it constructs its world from what it already knows: memories, experiences, old stories.

That’s why we often don’t see what is, but what we expect.

So anger, fear, and sadness don’t come from the world itself, but from the way we see it, through the lens of the past.

When you learn to drop that heavy backpack, you become light and free.
You don’t have to become someone new, you only need to stop carrying your old self.

And that’s exactly what Yoga and especially Naked Yoga is about.

When you undress, you don’t just take off your clothes, you shed a piece of your past.

You drop the masks, the roles, the expectations. You stand naked – honest, alive, real.

And you realize: I am more than my story.

Reflection & Practice for the Week

  • What are you fighting right now – outside or within yourself?

  • What weight are you still carrying that you could finally let go of?

  • How would it feel to set that stone down?

Take a few moments of stillness every day this week. Breathe deeply in, and as you exhale, imagine letting go of an old burden. Maybe just a small stone. But that’s enough to feel lighter.

I’ll help you with that. 🙂
