In yoga, there is a word that describes many of the struggles we face in life.
Maya.
The illusion.
You could also say:
Life itself is not the problem.
More often than not, we stand in our own way because of how we perceive it.
Many life crises are, at their core, crises of perception.
The solution to many of our problems does not begin somewhere outside of us.
More often, it begins within.
We do not simply see the world around us—or even our inner world—as it truly is.
Our brain is constantly creating its own version of reality.
Based on everything it has learned throughout our lives.
One of the best-known examples is the Müller-Lyer illusion.
Which line is longer?

Of course, both lines are exactly the same length.
So what does this have to do with yoga, Naked Yoga, and your life?
Quite a lot.
The Müller-Lyer illusion reveals something fascinating.
Our brain does not simply show us reality.
It interprets it.
And sometimes, it gets it completely wrong.
Perhaps you have experienced this yourself.
You look in the mirror.
And you think:
My stomach is too big.
My legs are not beautiful enough.
Or you reflect on yourself.
And thoughts like these appear:
I'm not good enough.
I'll never succeed.
I have to try harder.
Nobody likes me the way I am.
But how do you know any of this?
Are you really seeing your body?
Are you really seeing yourself?
Or are you only seeing the stories your mind has been telling you for years?
Maybe someone made a careless remark long ago.
Maybe you have seen countless advertising images.
Maybe you started comparing yourself with other people.
Eventually, you repeated that story so many times that it began to feel like the truth.
Just like the Müller-Lyer illusion.
The lines never changed.
Only your perception did.
Yoga—and especially Naked Yoga—invites you to recognize this mechanism.
To see through the illusion.
That is where real freedom begins.
With a different way of seeing.
A different way of looking at yourself.
And at the world around you.
That is why Naked Yoga is not about becoming more beautiful or more perfect.
It is about letting go of the stories you keep telling yourself.
Stories that may not be true at all.
Because your brain loves stories.
So why not begin telling yourself different ones?
Stories of love.
Of joy.
Of freedom.
Of happiness.
Wishing you a peaceful Sunday.
Your Elke
😀
