What Is the Meaning of All This?

by  Elke Lechner

There are times in life when it feels easy to see meaning in what we do.

For example, when we become parents or when we're studying for an important exam.

During times like these, life somehow feels right.

Work, sacrifice, and even failure lose their power to frighten us when we see them as part of something bigger.

Suddenly, even they seem to be a necessary part of our lives.

And then there are times when we desperately ask ourselves:

Does any of this still have a meaning?

Just a moment ago, everything seemed to make sense – and suddenly that sense of meaning is gone.

Where did it go?

Can we somehow unlearn how to experience meaning in life?

Maybe We're Looking in the Wrong Place

Many people spend their lives searching for meaning.

As if meaning were an object. A piece of gold hidden somewhere, waiting to be found.

But perhaps that's exactly where we're going wrong.

We search for meaning as though it were hidden somewhere.

As though we simply had to search long enough to finally find it.

But perhaps meaning works very differently.

Meaning isn't lying around somewhere waiting for you.

You give meaning to your life – exactly as it is.

Meaning is deeply personal. Ultimately, you decide what gives your life meaning.

Only you.

And meaning is dynamic.

It changes.

What felt meaningful at 20 may be completely different at 50.

You can't find meaning.
But you can give your life meaning.

No matter what may be happening in your life right now.

One of the Biggest Killers of Meaning in Life Is:

Stress.

When you're constantly stressed, your attention becomes focused almost entirely on problems, risks, and all the things that urgently need to be done.

Biologically, that makes sense. As living beings, our primary concern is survival – not happiness.

But in the process, you lose something essential:

The ability to step back and look at your life from a distance.

And to see the bigger picture beyond the problems that seem so important right now.

And now for the big question you may already be waiting for:

How can Naked Yoga help you find meaning in life?

The answer:

It can't.

Because meaning isn't something you can find. (See above. 😊)

But Naked Yoga can help you do something else:

It can help you pause.

For a moment, you stop functioning.

You take off your clothes.

Your roles.

Your expectations.

Perhaps even a little of the image you've created of yourself.

You breathe.

You move.

You feel your body.

And suddenly, you're no longer somewhere out there searching.

You're here.

And that's when you regain the distance you lost in the midst of stress.

And you can ask yourself:

  • What truly matters to me?
  • What do I want to do with the limited time I have?
  • Who or what do I want to be there for?
  • What do I want to leave behind in this world?

Naked Yoga can't give you the answers.

But it can create the space in which you can hear your own answers.

Because perhaps the most important question isn't:

“What is the meaning of my life?”

But:

“What meaning do I want to give my life?”

And you know what?

You can start today.

I'd love to help you.

Yours,
Elke
