About the importance of breathing in general and in yoga.

In this video I explain why breathing is so important in yoga and why we should also be more aware of our breathing in everyday life.

With the help of our breath we are able to calm our mind, but also to develop more strength and flexibility. I explain and show you with concrete examples how you can change your body-mind system with the help of your breath.

The breath

Breath - sea, sun, beach

The breath is the connecting element between body and mind.

Changes in your body affect your breathing. When you exert yourself physically, in sports for example, your oxygen demand increases and you breathe deeper and faster.

But changes in your consciousness also affect your breathing. When you are insecure, stressed, or anxious, your breathing is fast and shallow; when you are relaxed, you breathe slower and deeper.

Changes in your breathing affect your body. Golfers use breathing to add power and precision to their swing. People learning to shoot are advised to take deep breaths and squeeze the trigger while exhaling slowly. Opera singers and pop stars, all athletes where concentration and power are important, use their breath to perform what they do in the best possible way.

Changes in your breathing affect your consciousness.

The term "inspiration" comes from the Latin spirare, which means to breathe. So in the original sense it means "inhalation", in the figurative sense "to be filled with creative, creative energy".

From the Latin word expirare = to breathe out comes the English verb "to expire"; it means to end, to die, to breathe out life.
