Your Brain Wasn’t Designed to Make You Happy.

by  Elke Lechner

Pain-free movement begins with the right kind of movement.

In this week's video, I'll show you three simple exercises that can help relieve pressure on your sciatic nerve and support long-term prevention. Just a few minutes can make a noticeable difference.

Your Brain Wasn't Designed to Make You Happy.

That's simply not what it was built for.

It doesn't actually want you to be happy.

Perhaps it's pursuing goals very different from your own.

From an evolutionary perspective, living beings have just one primary objective:

To pass on their genes.

Your personal happiness couldn't matter less to evolution.

That's one reason life isn't always easy.

Because if you're anything like me, what you really want is to be happy and content.

Unfortunately, that's not your brain's primary mission.

And that's where the dilemma begins.

Your brain filters everything through its own priorities.

As a result…

It doesn't show you the world as it truly is.

It shows you a version of reality that helps you survive and reproduce.

It convinces you that happiness is always just around the corner.

If only you ate that delicious piece of cake.

If only you had more money.

A different job.

Or a different partner.

If only something out there were better.

But here's the truth:

That path will never bring lasting happiness or contentment.

The Rolling Stones captured it perfectly:

"I can't get no satisfaction."

More than 2,500 years ago, the Buddha expressed the same insight in the First Noble Truth:

Life is suffering.

Or, more precisely:

Life is fundamentally unsatisfying.

The Pali word dukkha is usually translated as suffering.

But a better translation would be:

Unsatisfactoriness.

Life has a way of leaving us wanting more.

That's why even the goals you achieve can never make you happy for long.

They give you a brief moment of relief.

And that's exactly why they feel so rewarding.

Soon enough, your mind is chasing the next goal.

Psychology calls this the hedonic treadmill.

Most people simply know it as the hamster wheel.

We spend our lives chasing one goal after another.

Yet lasting happiness always seems out of reach.

It drains our energy.

And turns us into people who are constantly chasing the next thing.

Yoga and especially Naked Yoga offers another way.

You learn to find happiness and contentment within yourself.

Happiness that grows from within.

And do you know what?

That's what sets you free.

So the real question is:

When will you stop chasing something you'll never truly reach?

When will you begin to see what is real?

Perhaps you don't need to become more.

Perhaps you simply need to stop chasing the wrong things.

I'd be happy to guide you.

Yours,

Elke
